TRAK Kayaks  /  2 Min Read  /  Solstice

The solstice is the shortest day of the year ("stillness of the sun”), and reacquaints us with darkness, silence and stillness, especially in times when we face uncertainty with our way forward.

As seekers of positive energy, we can all get seduced by light, illumination, expansion, then miss the opportunity to let life shake up, undo, deconstruct our linear thinking and accumulated knowledge, and force us to be still, and to listen.

Stillness of the Sun

Darkness is the terrain of the deeper senses that do not find expression in outer struggle and achievement, in small talk or social media posts, but in inner thoughts and intuition.

As seekers of positive energy, we can all get seduced by light, illumination, expansion, then miss the opportunity to let life shake up, undo, deconstruct our linear thinking and accumulated knowledge, and force us to be still, and to listen.

Healing trauma means becoming familiar with the darker sides of our experiences, learning to notice and allow the discomfort of anger, sadness, confusion. Yes, these too are messengers from the depth of our heart!

Before we celebrate the return of longer daylight, let us also remember to honour darkness for its stillness, maturation and the inner strength it brings to our lives.

May we all walk in kindness and gentleness with ourselves and one another.

Be well, be still, be water, and bask in the mystery of life!
