Celebrating Solstice and the Return of Sunshine

TRAK Kayaks  /  2 Min Read  /  Solstice

The solstice is the shortest day of the year, signaling a return to light and rebirth of the new cycle of seasons. As we return the promise of a New Year, we're reflecting on where we've been.

Sunshine and water are providers for all life on Earth. Cyclical and rhythmic, they also give us a measure of time. The solstice, particularly the Winter Solstice has been a focal point in the human calendar since time immemorial.

The Promise of Light

Our earliest ancestors were intrinsically tied to the passage of the seasons in ways we take for granted today, but that deep relationship is still ingrained within us in more ways than we think.

Some of the most high days of the religious year are marked by many faiths around the Solstice, echoing that importance. Those who came before us have marked the "shortest" day of the year for as long as they've been looking up to the stars.

The Winter Solstice represents the promise of the return of light, of energy and renewal in our world. In the modern day we're disconnected from the natural world in many of the ways those before us were intrinsically connected.

Reflecting on the past, welcoming the future

Like everyone, we experience that passage of time at TRAK and are reflecting on the year behind us, before we celebrate the promise of 2023. It's been a time of challenge and renewal, and we're thankful to have our community, our TRAK Tribe, along with us on this journey.

If you're looking for some inspirational journeys for 2023, why not check out the Arctic Experiences we explored this year, in Greenland and Norway.

From all of us at TRAK, we're wishing you a season filled with light and the promise of rebirth in the New Year.
