Location: Mississauga, Ontario

My introduction to paddling started at the age of 7 when my parents dropped me off at Camp Hurontario in Georgian Bay. This was several days before the other campers arrived.  The councillors needed to find ways to keep me busy so they taught me how to paddle and stern a canoe. Since then I have had a deep passion for paddling. Canoe  paddling has taken me over many years from Algonquin Park to the Keele River in the NWT.

When I moved to Port Credit I had a beautiful kevlar canoe that only got out several times a year as it was best paddled with gear and two people.  I was soon introduced to sea kayaking in Mississauga and recognized the potential for both being able to paddle solo or with others.  Since then I have acquired a number of traditional kayaks and become a Paddle Canada Sea Kayak Instructor. Sea kayaking has taken me all over from Haida Gwaii to Lake Superior and out to Cape Bretton. One of my boats is a Current Designs Solstice GT a large tripping boat with a long flat hull.  Another of my boats is a Valley Pintail that is shorter and narrower with lots of rocker.

Recently I was introduced to TRAK Kayaks.  I was most impressed with the ease of transport (large duffle bag), quick assembly, and the fact that it can quickly go from car trunk to checked luggage. The added security of having it discreetly in your car and not on the roof is a distinct advantage. Assembled the handling characteristics are similar to that of many hard shell boats.  A unique aspect of the TRAK boats is that you are able to change the shape of the hull on the fly going from a stable cruiser to a playful rock hopper.  In the end the boat is a joy to paddle and its versatility makes for great appeal for a variety of paddlers and skill levels.
