Location: Edinburgh, Scotland.
Brian and Liz hail from the USA, but their work as educators has taken them to Costa Rica, Armenia, the Netherlands and now Scotland. They love to share outdoor adventures of all kinds. Despite Brian being an ACA L3 Coastal Kayaking Instructor, their traveling life meant that it was never practical for them to own sea kayaks--until they found the TRAK 2.0. And having adopted the Dutch approach of doing everything by bicycle, they decided to set out on a “Bike x Boat” expedition project - an ambitious combination of two human-powered modes of travel.
Equipped with their TRAK 2.0 kayaks and their BikeFriday folding bicycles, they’ve designed a truly versatile, compact, and fully human-powered combined set-up to carry them on adventures for years to come. Their bicycles actually pack down and fit directly into the back compartment of the TRAK 2.0, and their packed kayaks fit neatly onto small trailers when they’re covering distance over land.
For 2023-24, Liz and Brian stepped away from their day jobs, and spent 15 months traveling and adventuring. This included two month-long Bike x Boat expeditions, one along the Dalmatian Coast of Croatia, and another on the west coast of the Malay Peninsula. They love the flexibility of this mode of travel, and how it lets them experience so many different aspects of the places they visit, from welcoming rural communities and quiet backroads to pristine nature and wild, inaccessible coasts.
Now they have made their home in Edinburgh, Scotland, where Brian is pursuing a PhD in Outdoor Environmental Education. They're thrilled that the TRAK 2.0 adapts well to city living. Despite living in a central flat, they can easily store their TRAKs, and just as easily cycle down to the water or put them on a train to access local paddles. And when it comes to adventures in the Highlands or Islands, the TRAKs are always easy to take along!
